Losing weight can be one of the hardest things a person can ever undertake. I have quit smoking, drinking, and raised three children, yet I have to say that losing weight was the absolute most difficult. Here I will discuss some of the simplest means of losing weight.
Liposuction
As we all know, liposuction can be an incredible effective means of losing weight, but it also comes with an expensive price tag and some seriously serious side effects. Did you know that liposuction can result in death, scarring, paralyzed nerves and even blood clots? I would think long and hard before getting liposuction, because although it seems simple, it may also be deadly.
Fasting
Fasting can be a healthy and simple means to effective weight loss. I would highly suggest however, that you do your 'due diligence' before getting too involved in a fasting experience. Fasting can be harmful if not done correctly or under the supervision of a certified physician. It requires dedication and extreme discipline to stick to the required water/juice/food intake at the proper times. All said and done though, you can lose a lot of weight fairly quickly with a proper fast.
Gastric Bypass Surgery
Gastric bypass surgery is another technique to lose weight that has been highly debated. You will hear many experts say that it is safe and effective, yet you would he hard pressed to not find some extreme horror stories with regard to gastric bypass as well. If you are unfamiliar, gastric bypass is essentially a surgery that makes it possible to eat much less and still be full. As far as a simple weight loss solution, it wouldn't be on the top of my list.www.firsthealthforyou.blogspot.com

Late in October of 2009, I started running about three miles a night. It took me four months or so to hit the weight I was going for, but I did it. I went from 190 to 160 pounds. So, about February this year. Actually, from 190 to 158 pounds, but you know, rounding and waterweight fluctuation and whatnot. Anyway, fast forward to now. I've been running the same amount every night since then. Thing is, I've maintained 160 pounds. It's been another 3 months, but I haven't lost anymore weight. Have I burned off all the fat my body wants me to?
I have these weird flappy roll things on my stomach. Is it excess skin or stubborn fat? Both? I can grab them and pull them from my stomach. I lost my weight from my stomach, chest and face. My legs are solid muscle (I'm a toe walker of 17 years) and I've always had skinny arms.
I'm also on a diet, always have been. I pretty much only eat three meals a day with maybe one snack. I drink milk with breakfast, water through the day, and when I run at night I drink green tea.
What can I do to get rid of this stomach pudge? It doesn't want to go away. I've decided that maybe I should start doing some core exercises, mountain climbers and planks are easiest for me to do. Any tips or advice for me? Also, since I want to work my abdominal, is there any supplement out there that I can use with my workout? I don't want to get ripped, just tone up my stomach. I'm not into the whole rock hard abs thing, but I do want a flat stomach.

I would just like to say that I did try the Idiot Diet - I still try it every now and then - it works - I can lose 5 lbs in one week to 10 days - just don't care for the same old foods over and over that I have to choose from ....eating 4 meals (or snacks) a day works - one can eat as much as one desires, just don't get completely full. It really does work for me but of course, after I lose the weight, then I say, "oh, well, just one won't hurt!" and slowly but surely the weight starts creeping up again. But, I know that I can go to my computer, choose foods they offer on the diet and start all over.

My name is Fay. I lost 200 pounds in 2 years literally by starving myself and over exercising.
I got down to 137 pounds. I'm 5'9. Due to the large amount of weight loss I have a lot of excess skin so I never felt skinny. I'm really having a hard time keeping the weight off. I recently put on 25 pounds but lost 15 of it the really unhealthy way.
I'm forcing myself to throw up my food and still continue to over work out. I burn off over 1000 calories at the gym. I really wanna go back down to 140 pound but my body is drained.
I'm scared and I don't feel good emotionally or physically I'm super depressed its taking over my life I really feel like this is gonna be the death of me I need help.
Dear Fay:
Yes you do need help. You need the help of a professional.
To lose the weight you have lost in the way you did it takes an enormous amount of will power and determination. Most people would never have the strength of will to starve themselves or to work out to extremes in order to lose weight. I am in awe of the strength of your determination.
You need to direct your enormous will power in a healthier way.
I am worried, as you are, that this is totally unhealthy behaviour. Bulimia (throwing up your food purposely as well as excessive exercise) is a disorder that can lead to other health problems and complications.
You really need to consult your doctor and get involved with a support group. Self-help groups like Overeaters Anonymous may help and The American Anorexia/Bulimia Association are sources of information about this disorder.
You will find information and links to support sites here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002839/
You aren't alone.
Please look after yourself and get some help.

My weight problem is this:
The timing of when I eat.
My husband and I were living a long way from our home, and had to commute for about 2 years.
At that time, we both got out of work at 7 p.m. So, we would get home around 9 - 9:30 p.m., and then ate dinner with our two boys. Well, of course, we were going to bed shortly after dinner every night, and in those 2 years, I gained 2 pant sizes!
We have since moved closer to work for both of us, but now, my work shift has changed...and I get up at 4 a.m. and work until about 1 or 2 p.m. So, even though I have more time to exercise, I'm so tired by the time I get home that it's the last thing I want to do!
Also, my husband still works until 7 p.m., so dinner is late and then I'm the one going to bed again shortly after dinner!
I've stopped eating dinner with my husband and kids, but the temptation is unbelievable! There they sit with a full, delicious dinner, and here I sit trying to carry on conversations with them from the living room!
Does anyone have any advice on how I can get more motivated to exercise after work, or any advice on what to do at dinner time?
Thank you so much!
Deb

HELLO, I'VE BEEN WORKING OUT SINCE ONE YEAR AGO. AT THE BEGINNING I DID IT WITHOUT ANY TRAINER ADVICE AND LOST SOME WEIGHT BUT THEN THE GYM TRAINER GAVE ME A ROUTINE AND A DIET THAT I FOLLOWED FOR 3 WEEKS AND THEN I SAW REAL CHANGES... THEN I RELAXED MY ROUTINE AND WENT TO THE GYM JUST 3 TIMES A WEEK AND WENT UP IN WEIGHT AGAIN BUT BETTER PROPORTIONED, YOU KNOW WHERE YOU WANT TO HAVE THAT FAT EXCESS BUT SOME GOT IN TO MY STOMACH AND I DIDN'T LIKE THAT OF COURSE! I STARTED AGAIN WITH MY DIET AND GOING TO THE GYM EVERYDAY AND AFTER 2 WEEKS I'VE LOST ALMOST 3 KILOS IN 2 WEEKS SO ITS GREAT... MY BIG CONCERN IS... IT SEEMS THAT I SHOULD HAVE AN STRICT DIET FOREVER IN ORDER TO KEEP MYSELF IN THIS SHAPE... AND WHEN I'M INT HIS SHAPE MY FACE LOOKS SKINNY AND I LOSE SOME OF MY BUTT AND BREAST WELL... ALMOST ALL AND I STILL HAVE SOME LITTLE FAT AND THE SKIN IN MY STOMACH LOOKS WRINKLED...
MY QUESTIONS ARE.. WHAT IS THE BEST DIET FOR MAINTAINING MY SHAPE?
HOW CAN I GET RID OF THE LAST FAT IN MY STOMACH WITHOUT LOSING HWAT I HAVE LEFT IN AS BREAST AND BUTT?
AND THERE COMES ANOTHER ONE. AT THE BEGINNING I HAD A TRAINER SAYING I SHOULD MAKE A CIRCUIT OF EXERCISES ND DO THEN KIND OF SLOWLY... THE ANOTHER ONE COMES AND SAY I SHOULD MAKE THEM AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, NON STOP ACTUALLY TO BURN FAT AND HAVE A MORE WELL-DEFINED BODY AS WOMAN IS WHAT I WANT ACTUALLY...
HOW MANY EXERCISES I SHOULD MAKE FOR LEGS, BUTT, SHOULDERS, BICEPS? ONE SAID LEGS 6 DIFFERENT EXERCISES THE OTHER ONE SAID 3 A DAY OF COURSE REPEATING THE CIRCUIT 3 TIMES AT LEAST AND FOR ARM MUSCLES ONE SAID 2 OF EACH, MEANING SHOULDERS, BICEPS AND TRICEPS AND THE OTHER ONE SAID... 5 SHOULDER, 4 TRICEPS 3 BICEPS.... DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO SERIOUSLY...
SO I'VE TRIED DOING TO OF EACH, NON STOP FOR ONE WEEK AND I DEFINITELY SWEAT MUCH MORE AND I DONT FEEL THAT TIRED AT THE END OF MY SESSION...
OH.. ANOTHER THING...IS THAT TRUE THAT I SHOULD NOT MAKE MORE THAN 40 MINUTES CARDIO A DAY?
THANKS!

I don't have an addiction or anything to sweets/junk food.. but like if anyone offers me anything I find it too hard to resist.
I am not overweight but would really like to loose some anyway. I do exercise most days and eat quite well usually, but I cannot seem to loose the weight.
I mostly put it on around hips and thighs. I go to the gym and do cardio like treadmill, bike, rower and I go for jogs around my house to.
I am 180 cm, and 72 Kg. I just want to know if anyone has every felt the same way and what they do or did to help them, if anyone has any specific diets (not crazy ones) or exercises that helped them.. I would be really grateful. :)
Hi (Anonymous!): Cindy here...According to the 'charts' that indicate a healthy weight for women of your height (just under 6 feet) and weight of 158 lbs., you are right when you say you are not overweight. (I've made the assumption that you are a woman based on your weight...a man at your weight and height would be no where near overweight, sorry if I guessed wrong). From what you say, I am assuming you are not happy with your shape and wish to improve your proportions.
Your efforts have all been directed to cardio work (running, jogging etc.) to try and make changes, but my suggestion is that you mix it up with strength training exercises. Don't stop the running altogether, but if you workout 3 or 4 times a week, make 2 or 3 of them into strength training workouts using bands or weights.
There are many excellent books and online sources for strength training routines for women. Some are listed and recommended on my site.
As to not being able to resist sweets when offered, I have the same problem. But if your diet is otherwise healthy and you exercise regularly and don't pig-out, a little indulgence makes life more enjoyable. Don't sweat it.
Hope this helps.

I am one of those people who are desperately trying to lose weight.
I have not tried using any dietary supplements before but I'm taking it into consideration right now.
It is very hard for me to change my bad eating habits so I want to get some help. I have read about this product called Proactol, which is said to be 100% all natural, so it seems safe.
Any comments out there?
Note from Cindy:
The weight loss claims made on the Proactol site seem exaggerated. Anyone considering using a supplement such as Proactol should read this review at UltimateFatBurner.com to see all the ins and outs of the product. My current WT is 185 and I am 5'8". My goal is to get back to 130-140.
I have no kids to blame my weight gain on, just a lazy life style.
I know that working out and eating right is the best and safest way to lose the WT and be more healthy. I have cut out fast food and sweets (cookies, cake, ice cream) from my diet and started running.
I run 2-4 miles every other if not every day. I have been doing this for a about 4 weeks. And although I feel better I have yet to see any improvement with my body (shape and size); especially my stomach and love handles (my problem areas).
Is there any thing I am doing wrong? what can I do better?
Do I just need to give it more time? If so how long? I want , so bad, to feel good about they way I look but Im beginning to doubt myself.
Please help. Any advise would me much
appreciated.

I have also always been somebody who has to watch what I eat in order to keep my weight down but i cant seem to get into a good routine here- i seem to just keep eating everything.
Is there anybody who serves as a dietician who can just help me stay on track... somebody I submit my eating forms into everyday or somebody I cant call?

I am fifty five years young and very health concious.
I have been working out for a number of years and always with great results , without the use of stimulants/fatburners etc .
However , I have found that even though I walk 5 days per week , and that is speed walking , completing 3 miles in 45 minutes , and weight train , doing supersets, giant sets , and interval training, 3 times per week , have a fairly good diet, I still cannot shift any signifant body fat .
I weigh in at 124lbs , my usual weight was always 110 and under. I am just 5ft and want desperatley to tone and tighten. I am hypertensive and take blood pressure medication .

I am an obese 70 year old. Is it safe and wise to hire a personal trainer to help me loose weight that is causing me health problems?
From Cindy:
Living in a small retirement town, the majority of my clients are older women. No matter your age, a fitness trainer will work with you to improve your fitness, lose weight and attain better health.
First things first, though, any trainer would ask for a report from your doctor setting out your health limitations for exercise. I would even send a copy of a proposed workout to your doctor for approval before beginning.
It is a wonderful and encouraging thing for me to be able to help someone gain lost strength and better health.
I currently have a client who is 89 years old. She is doing very well.
Best, Cindy

I've been on the One Week Diet Cleanse for 2 consecutive weeks now. I have 2 more to go until I run out of product.
If you're curious what I'm talking about... I bought the Gold Intensive Package from http://www.oneweekslimdown.com/
I've got to say so far I'm really really pleased with it. I lost 6 pounds the first week and another 4 pounds in the second. I eat less and it is easy and feels right, like healthy.
To give you an idea on how it works:
You mix the liquid concentrate with water and drink it once in the morning and again in the afternoon. It also helps you replace one meal of your choosing, either breakfast or lunch. Sometimes I am a little too hungry to replace an entire meal and I snack on some of the suggested foods in the manual such as raw almonds.
I really feel strongly about the product and it's effects on my body. It's a really simple gradual approach to weight loss without any harsh dieting, starvation or intense exercising. In fact, 30 minutes of mild walking a day is more than enough.
And on another note, not only have I lost weight, but my indigestion has gone completely... I've had it for years, now it's gone, I guess that is why the product is called "One Week Liquid Meal Replacement and Digestive Cleanse.
Has anybody else tried this product?

Hi: I work nights, have 3 kids
and I'm having problems losing weight. Please help.
Response from Cindy
Thanks for writing Gilly and I'm sure there are many who have similar problems. It can be tough enough to lose weight even when you have the time to do everything right.
As hard as it may seem, you must make yourself a priority for at least a short time each day. Being healthy and fit, with the increase in energy that you will experience is a great benefit not only to you but to your family. You'll be a shining example to your kids.
Though it sounds trite, your weight and what you do about it is in your own hands.
I encourage you to take one small step at a time, starting with setting aside at least a half hour daily for exercise. Eating habits too should be examined and perhaps adjusted in small increments.
I'd love to talk more about this so please let me know your specific needs and questions.
Best regards,
Cindy
Thank you so much for your words of wisdom and encouragement. I had a long chat with my husband last night and I'm feeling a little better about getting myself started on a regular workout regime and diet plan. You are absolutely right that I have to be accountable for myself. I do want to do this for my children as well. I will try to keep up on my postings so I can let you know how I'm progressing. Thanks again, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders.

I’m a married woman who has been always trying to work out and look good.
I understand that I do it for myself first, but do all of us want to get attention from men?
Unfortunately, my husband has a very low sex drive (according to his doctor), and doesn’t have much interest in this part (otherwise, he’s a great father and friend).
I’m frustrated at having to pretend that the lack of a sex life is OK.
What should I do?
My girlfriend told me about www.findnewpassion.com website.
I was shocked to see how many people are looking to put a spark back into their lives.
Are all of them liars? Are we all trying to please spouses and children and live under obligations while pretending to be happy?
What are your thoughts?

I turned 50 years old and started experiencing weight gain as well as a whole host of other issues!
I am now 3 months away from 52 and I cannot for the life of me lose this extra 10 pounds!!!
I eat very healthy; lots of veggies, low fat chicken breast, proteins shakes and/or bars...a sweet every now and then.
My biggest issue is night time hunger. (I love nuts!)
No matter what or when I eat dinner I still get hungry before I go to bed.
I started exercising in 1986 and w/o at least 3-4 times a week. Mostly weights and cardio machines. And I went from a size 9 to a size 1 but now a 3 is tight!
This is so discouraging since I know a lot about nutrition and exercise!
Do you have any suggestions for me?
by Stuck
I have been trying to lose weight for a while... like 2 years, OK so I have made and broken so many promises I have no motivation except summer is coming soon!!! How can I become motivated? What is a good goal, 3lbs a week????
Dear Stuck:
Motivation to exercise and lose weight can be an elusive thing. Getting yourself unstuck and working toward your goal depends on what will work for you. The method won't just come to you, you must create it. In other words, wishing for motivation won't work now any better than it did in the past, so you pick up the phone and make an appointment with a personal trainer, or call a friend to join you at the gym, or you join weight watchers and go to the meetings.
Those are just a few ideas of what you might do, but the idea is to DO SOMETHING, take the first step and make the commitment. You can't stick to a plan that was never made, and making a plan is useless unless you act on it.
Best regards,
Cindy

Hi. I'm 22 years old, I weigh just under 160 pounds and I'm 5'6. I am currently walking down off of an antidepressant. I've been only been actively dieting and exercising for more than two months, but I've lost 25 pounds since January. The most amazing thing about this is that I've gone down several bra sizes and no longer have to shop at specialty stores for HUGE bras.
I eat just over 1200 calories a day and exercise for usually about 80 minutes a day. The exercise is a combination of yoga and high impact, vigorous cardio-strength training OR walking. I use MyFitnessPal.com to document my eating and exercise. I drink more than 8 glasses of water a day and take two tablespoons of Braggs Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar a day.
This is all great, and I feel great. I feel like I've made some really positive lifestyle changes that I enjoy enough to keep up for the rest of my life. The problem is that I've hit a plateau. I've slimmed down considerably in the easy places, and now I can't seem to make my problem areas budge. I've slowed down and stopped losing pounds.
I don't care so much about how much I weigh so long as I'm healthy and have minimal body fat. It's the body fat I'm having trouble eliminating.
What can I do to amp up my routine and get back to seeing real progress like I was weeks ago? Am I doing something wrong? Am I not doing enough or eating enough? Help!
Sincerely,
Stuck in this body

Have any of you read “Harmonic Wealth” by James Ray? I’ve been to a free seminar that he offered in my hometown and bought his book at Barnes and Noble. It’s great! The book is not just about money (although he covers that.) There is actually a whole section on the physical body and he offers up some great ideas that have worked for me.
One of those is starting off the day with a glass of water with lemon and then making my first meal a green shake. Yep, veggies for breakfast. Still doesn’t hit the spot like a pile of pancakes, but I’ve lost seven pounds in the last month and a half and my skin is looking a lot brighter and clearer. There is a recipe for the green drink in the “Harmonic Wealth” book that James’s anti-aging doctor prescribed to him on Page 246. Good luck and God bless!

Ok. Here's my problem. I have been working out for the last 9 yrs 5-6 days per week doing mostly cardio but have recently increased my strength training to at least 2 days per week.
During the past 2 years, I have noticed my body getting more loose. Especially around my stomach area. I eat healthy with the occasional baking of cookies. I eat approximately 1200 calories per day. I'm 32 years old. 5 ft. 6 in. and 132 lbs.
I used to weigh 128 and my body was much tighter. My question is, what can I do to get the tightness back in my body?
Is it just something that comes with age or is there something I can do to get it back?
Do I need to workout less, more. Eat less, eat more? Please help!

I started at 326 pounds six weeks ago and I am now down to 300.
I am extremely motivated and was doing so well. I've been walking 1-2 miles almost daily and a few days a week I ride a stationary bike for 20-30 minutes.
In the beginning I just started by eating healthier foods and writing it all down.
The last four weeks I've been a little stricter and kept my daily calorie intake goal at 1500.
Some days I just didn't feel like eating anything else and would stop at 1300.
I don't know what happened but the last few days I want to eat nonstop.
I've managed to not go crazy but ate between 1800 - 2000 calories. My motivation has not changed, I'm not on my period, and I'm not surrounded by temptation, so I'm not sure what's happening.
Before I could look at a cookie and not even want it.
Now I keep snacking (mostly healthy calories) but I want to feel in control again.
The only thing I could pinpoint (which I don't see how this could have caused this) is 2 nights ago I made baked eggplant parmesan for dinner.
I had three slices instead of just the one that I had intended and went over my calories by 300 that night.
That is when it seemed to have started, but I'm assuming that's just a coincidence.

I am a 21 year old female that has currently achieved my target weight and lost 30lbs in weight. I am very happy with my weight and body now, as I have lost the weight with a combination of exercise and diet.
However, I would like to have more defined muscles on my abdomen and legs. I usually do cardio exercise 3-4 times a week, an hour of pilates every morning and I would now like to introduce some more exercise around weights. I have bought myself some resistance bands, I have some 3kg weights and my own body weight and was wondering if you could recommend some exercises?
As a vegetarian that eats little quorn and tofu, I was wondering if you feel a protein supplement after going to the gym may be useful? If so, which products would you recommend?

I was going to try to frame an answer to your question, but then I got thinking that you must be just pulling my leg.
Hi,
I am 29 year old women who is 5'4 and weighs 137 pounds.
However I would like to get back to my original weight of 124 pounds, which I was before my marriage.
I have started jogging for an hour 5 days a week and have stopped all areated drinks.
I eat brown bread instead of white and have substituted sugar with sugar free. My breakfast is usually a bowl of cornflakes, and I try to keep my dinner light as well usually with a glass of milk and 3 slices of brown bread, but this does not seem to be working.
I drink lots of water but instead of losing weight I have gained a kg.
What else can I do?
My calorie intake is above 1200 so that my body does not feel that it is starving and stores fat however I am unable to shake of the excess weight.
Please advise.
