Need Advice, hit a weightloss plateau.
I have been eating really well... I have a gluten allergy and I am sensitive to sugar so I don't eat a lot of things with flour or sugar.
I eat protein and a lot of vegetables. I lost some weight only eating about 1100 cals/day but I have not been losing weight for about a month now.
I haven't been eating worse either--on the contrary I have been doing even better in my eating. It has become a way of life for me now and I feel like my body has adjusted but perhaps that is the problem.
I am not overweight, I am 5'8'' and weigh 114 but I am a model so I need to lose about 10 more pounds. I am not into starving myself but i heard that 1100 cals could be the problem why I am not losing anymore weight.
I need help, I don't understand why I have plateaued but I am very frustrated.
Should I decrease or increase cals? Should I eat like a normal person for like a week then go back to my normal eating?
Advice would be great, I don't understand how all of this works.
From Cindy:
It seems that what has happened is that your body has gone into starvation mode. 1100 calories a day is about half what is required to maintain your body weight as it is.
Any doctor and all the health charts in existence would say that you are already well below the ideal weight for your height..ie. anywhere from 124 to 146 pounds is considered ideal for a height of 5' 8".
When faced with a calorie deficit like you are, you will initially lose some weight, but your metabolism will slow down considerably in response to being starved.
I hate to think of giving you advice on how to lose more weight when you are already under-weight.
Do I have to say how much I dislike the modelling business when it takes unhealthy measures like starvation to get to the silly-skinny shape considered ideal for a model?
Why not try fitness modelling? You would have to strictly control calorie quantities and quality, but you wouldn't starve.
Best of luck,
Cindy
